Guidance note - identifying
contaminated land

Wouldn’t it be good if contaminated land had a big sign on it to identify what the contamination is and what needs to be done to remove it? However, this is never the case, often detailed sampling and testing is required.

Identifying contaminated land

One of the most common hazards found in an environmental impact assessment is contaminated land. This is a particularly technical subject and one which will usually require the services of a consultant. But to help you understand the basic principles we’ve produced a Guidance Note - Identifying Contaminated Land that describes the legislative framework which sets out what’s needed to treat it and what a consultant is likely to do to identify the full extent of the contamination.
