Setting out your workplace environment policy makes it clear that you’ve met the legal requirements, plus it helps to manage staff expectations.

When to use the policy

If you’re drawing up health and safety policies to cover all aspects of your workplace, then it’s sensible to also include one on the workplace environment. Heating, lighting, use of space and ventilation are areas where staff tend to disagree regarding what is, and isn’t, comfortable. Having a clear policy helps to demonstrate to them that you’re aware of the legislation and that you’ve done what is required.
