Detailed assessment - lifting and carrying

If your staff complete tasks which may involve significant manual handing, you need to take a close look at the risks involved and identify ways of completing them safely.

Detailed assessment

The risks associated with tasks that require significant manual handling are well known - especially when it involves lifting and carrying. But this doesn't mean that your staff can’t complete them if precautions are taken. Before they tackle the load, you need to complete a risk assessment. This will identify the significant hazards associated with the task and, more importantly, suitable and sufficient control measures.

Use our Detailed Assessment - Lifting and Carrying document to break the task into its component parts, highlight where accidents may happen, and what staff need to do to stay safe. Note. You don't need to do this for all manual handling, this level of assessment should be for heavy loads only.
