For complete legal safety: ready-to-use documents to cover all your personnel dealings.
Use our data protection policy statement to reiterate the important principles set out in the Data Protection Act 1998 and to clarify what rights and obligations an employee has in relation to their own and other employees’ personal information.
The Data Protection Act 1998 lists eight data protection principles relating to the processing of personal data held on computerised and certain manual filing systems. These are set out in our Data Protection Policy statement. In addition, the Information Commissioner has issued an Employment Practices Data Protection Code which deals with data protection in employment and which covers recruitment and selection, the management of employment records, monitoring at work and information about workers’ health. Employees need to be aware that not only do they have a right to access personal information you hold about them but also they have an obligation to protect the confidentiality of personal information you hold about other employees (or indeed about clients, customers, etc.) and to which they might have access. Our data protection policy statement contains a list of useful guidelines for the employee to adhere to in this regard. You can amend or add to this list as appropriate.
